Breakfast in New Orleans
 

Would love to have a few suggestions on a good breakfast in New Orleans. We (4 of us) will be in NO Friday June 10 and need a really great place to eat breakfast Saturday, June 11. Staying at the Ritz and love to walk. or drive. or whatever. Thanks so much.

Are you looking for great food, or a great "place"? In the great breakfast food category, look no further than Camellia Grill and Johnny's Po Boy. But neither would be in the same category as the Ritz :-)

Brennan's on Royal is very nice and they'll make Bananas Foster tableside!

Great food all the way baby.

Will second Johnny's for po-boys (just don't look at the dumpy digs too closely) and Brennan's for an over-the-top and incredibly pricey formal breakfast (note that there are mixed reviews on the latter, though I had an excellent meal when I went).

Coffee and beignets at Cafe du Monde are of course a must.

Lil Dizzy's does a very nice soul food inspired breakfast. The branch in the Wyndham Hotel is in a better and more central location, while the original (which you may want to take a cab to depending on when you go, as the neighborhood is not the best) is the original and feels more like a neighborhood place.

There are also several good local coffee shop spots in the French Quarter where you can get good coffee and baked goods, including Croissant d'Or, PJ's, EnVie, La Boucherie, and Royal Blend.

Avoid Mother's for po-boys and Cafe Beignet -- I didn't like the food I got at these places at all.

Avoid Mother's period! We had breakfast there the day before we ate at Johnny's Po-Boy,and I sure wish I had skipped Mother's. Just not very good.

(and totally agree about not looking at the dumpy digs at Johnny's too closely --- definitely a dive, but a dive with delicious food)

Camellia Grill, whose original restaurant is at the end of the St. Charles streetcar in the Garden District, just opened a branch in the French Quarter. Fabulous omelets. I don't know whether the atmosphere carried over.

Old Coffee Pot is fun and there's outdoor dining. I think Surrey's has a great breakfast and atmosphere too. It's in the LGD just W of I 90 off St. Charles. You could take the streetcar. Stanley is the best place in NOLA for breakfast.

I had a great omelet at Cafe Beignet and great eggs, grits and bacon at Clover Grill.

The lump crab meat omelet at Brennan's was worth every penny but the cheddar omelet was nothing to write home about. It felt old school and we enjoyed ourselves.

Another vote for Stanley's! LOVED it.

Where's Stanley's?

Breakfast - CAFE DUMONDE for sure! Everyone has to experience that dirty little pit before leaving NO : ) It's crowded, COVERED with powdered sugar, but you need to try beignets - NO's signature breakfast (basically a ball of fried dought topped w/ mounds of powdered sugar).

For dinner, stay away from the Alpine. We were not impressed with it two summers ago...

It doesn't have to be breakfast, but please try beignets at Cafe du Monde! Absolutely no nutrition but try it at least once. Delicious!

Stanley's is up the street from Cafe Du Monde in Jackson Square.

We really enjoyed Oceana, located on Conti just off Bourbon. It's right outside the side door of the Royal Sonesta.

We had several different dishes, including Eggs Benedict, Pain Perdu, a seafood omelet, and the biggest pancakes ever (grandson loved them!).

If you remember Petunia's, it is interesting that Oceana took their menu, since Petunia's didn't reopen after Katrina.

Eggs Melanzana at Oceana -- basically eggplant, tomato, shaved ham, poached egg, bearnaise, parmesan -- we'll be there in a week!

Another vote for Stanley's great breakfast.

Thanks so much....really wish we had more time to eat more breakfasts.....one day is just not enough. Though we live in Mississippi, we never have the opportunity to go to New Orleans, so this is a real treat.
