Breakfast in Charleston?
My wife and I are going to Charleston, SC in 2 weeks to celebrate our fifth wedding anniversary!
We've pretty much got most of our meals planned out, but we are wondering if anyone has a recommendation for a great breakfast place in Charleston? We are staying at the DoubleTree, so preferably something in the historic district.
For those that care, we have reservations for dinner at Peninsula Grill and Blossom Cafe (I know most have said it's better for lunch, but the Mrs. loved the dinner menu!). We are also planning on checking out Jestine's Kitchen and Poogan's Porch for lunch and maybe Hominy Grill for breakfast.
Any help will be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Not sure if you are looking for more of a large buffet brunch or not, but we really enjoyed our breakfast at Palmetto Cafe in the hotel, Charleston Place. The restaurant is very pretty there. .We just ordered from the menu. Waffles with pecans were great. (ask for extra fruit with them)
We too stayed at DoubleTree and was quite pleased with the service and location. Also ate at Blossom for lunch. Nice outdoor seating. Do go have a drink at the Pavilion rooftop bar also. Great views. Enjoy!!

I just came back from Charleston and stayed ate the Market Pavilion Hotel. It was the best hotel experience I have ever had, anywhere. The rooftop Pavilion is nice and good for evening cocktails. We did not eat breakfast at the hotel because because it was a Sunday Brunch and more food than we wanted but we walked by it and it looked wonderful. We ate at Grill 225, the hotel restaurant the night before it was excellent so I would imagine that the Sunday Brunch would be just as good.

If downtown, you HAVE to go to Baker's cafe for breakfast. (and/or lunch). It's on King Street, less than a block south of Charleston Place. Eggs benedict with crab, wonderful pastries, desserts, quiches. YUM. However, note that they are not very child friendly. I used to eat there regularly when i worked downtown. Once I quit work to raise my children, I realized I could no longer dine there (at least for awhile). No booseter seats. No place to change diapers. Not a place for the kiddies.
If you're near the north beaches, you have to go to the Sea Biscuit, a long time institution on Isle of Palms, similar pairing of seafood and breakfast and lunch, but very down home, with a screened porch and wood flors and tables swept clean.

I highly recommend Joseph's on Meeting Street. They have some really original dishes as well as the usual, bacon and eggs. I go there every time I'm in Charleston (which is often) and order the sweet potato pancakes which are out of this world.
The Hominy Grill is not within walking distance, but ask anyone where it is and they'll show you how to get there. It's a hidden treasure.

Try the buffet brakfast at the Doubletree. We also stayed there and loved it. Breakfast was wonderful. If you don't see what you want ask and they will get it for you.
We also ate lunch at Poogan porch had the crab sandwich was wonderful.
Just love Charleston.

Poogan's Porch seems to have some type of cult following.
Based on rec's from this forum we ate there last year and the food was identical to that served at Denny's.
Go if you must, but don't expect food similar in quality to many of the other great restaurants in Charleston.

What an excellent choice .you will love Charleston. Beware though, this is a huge tourism city and only the locals will really let you in on the best spots. My advice. High Cotton on East bay for Brunch , Slightly North of Broad is a MUST for dinner, thai at basil, lunch at Cru Cafe and sushi at 39 rue de jean. Stay away from the overpriced highly advertised restaurants and opt for real southern dining. Check out mavericksouthernkitchens.com. when it comess to where the locals eat . this is it. hope that helps .
oh and Blossoms has just changed their menu.
