Boston or DC for holiday trip

The first weekend in December is our 5th anniversary and my husband & I are thinking of a long weekend in either Boston or Wash. D.C. My husband hasn't been to either city and I haven't been in years. Looking for holiday decorations, museums, shopping, nice dinners, etc... Which city would you choose?
Thanks!

I love DC, but I think Boston will be more the thing IMO. They just opened the Frog Pond skating rink last week and it was such a neat place! Boston is such a great city, very walkable and livable, and while we were there they were starting to do some fabulous Holiday decorating. If I could stand the winters,(and afford the housing ;-)), I could live there. Judy

For museums, you can't beat DC - and most free. Decorations? I don't know. Shopping: probably Boston. Dinners: about even. Just my opinion.

Boston is great at Christmas time. There are so many activities its hard to list them all. But here's a shot

Boston Pops Holiday concerts
Boston Ballet Nutcracker - one of the best productions in the world.
Handel & Hayden Society performances of the Messiah
Black Navitity
Lights on the Common
Tea at the Ritz
Skating on the Frog Pond
Shopping on Newbury St.
The Enchanted Village - hoky Boston tradition - village scenes with little animated figures.
Shopping on Charles Street.
Museum of Fine Arts and Isabella Stewart Gardener Museum.
Dinner in the North End.

Boston at Christmas is great.

Thank you so much for the information! I'm thinking we could do Boston the 1st weekend in Dec. and then maybe DC between Christmas and New Years. Thanks again!
