Boston Hotel/Aug 15-17
Does anyone know if there is anything special happening in Boston the weekend of Aug 15-17? I know that, as a rule, Boston hotels are expensive- particularly in the Copley Square/Back Bay area that I like. That said, I've been doing some shopping around and rates for that weekend seem unusally high- well over S300 a night. I've booked a back-up at The Charlesmark, but it's really not my first choice. I will probably try Priceline closer to the date. I'm looking for a room at around $200-250 per night. Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated. How far in advance should one start trying on Priceline? What is a reasonable starting bid for a high season weekend? Thanks, Flyer-

The annual convention of the American Psychological Assn is in Boston August 14-17, expecting 18,000 attendees.
Also, that's a bit early, but could be the beginning of the arrival of the hundred thousand students who swarm into the city each fall. Freshmen tend to arrive early and to bring parents bearing credit cards. And t

I'm checking in the Mid May to early June time frame and finding a lot of price differences from one weekend to another. Memorial Day weekend is looking like the best priced time in the Bay Bay/ Copley Square area in the dates I'm checking for. It's hard when you have a specific weekend, and I'm glad i have flexibility.

Unfortunatley, my dates aren't flexible. I should probably be grateful for my 189- room at the Charlesmark, and live with it... Another inexpensive option is The Newbury Guest House but I've heard mixed reports. I'll keep trying Priceline and Hotwire and see what happens...

Thanks for the suggestion. I just tried The Liberty for that weekend- $550. per night. There's a 3.5/Copley Place on Hotwire for 205. a night. I'm 99% sure it's The Sheraton. I may just grab that. It's the perfect location and I don't think I'm going to do any better.

If you have not booked yet look at what the Radisson in Boston is offering, I haven't checked, but sometimes, even in summer, they offer some decent specials and some of my relatives have been pleased with that hotel

The Radisson was 299. and that's almost starting to sound resonable... I wonder how high I would have to go on Priceline to secure a Back Bay/Copley 4-star? With the prices I'm seeing, even $200 seems like it would be too low.

I just did a quick search, there are a few - the Langham, the Lenox, for around 260 - and both of those would be ok - but I did not read the fine print
Langham is in financial district, which can be a tad quiet at night and Lenox is on Boylston, a good location
just check b/c they also list some hotels for far less than 250, but I think at a quick glance most of those are in terrible locations
don't know what you are in town for, but the Radisson is nice in the summer if you are a pool person at the end of the day
I've never stayed at the Charlesmark but it is a good location - just a busy one too -

I just got the Back Bay Sheraton on Priceline for 189.00. I know that it is a high bid for Priceline but given the rates I'm seeing for the weekend I need the room for, I feel pretty lucky. The cheapest advance purchase on their website was 249.00, with all other options well over 300.00. Yeah!!!!
