Hotel in Boston

At the end of July, we will be traveling to Boston with our two kids (7 months & 26 months). Does anyone have a hotel they can recommend? We are trying to be money conscience. We don't need anything too fancy, but would like to be walking distance/short taxi ride to a few things and being close to public transportation is an added bonus. Thank you so much!

This really a BIG subject--
First what can you afford to pay for hotel...???
Boston is very walkable--providing you have stroller ....
what kind of stuff do you plan to do???
I have only been to Boston 2 times--both in spring and the weather was wonderful--each time I was with Elderhostel and hotel and tour were one price..
You can get good information by doing a "search" on this site.
Using "boston hotels"

Forgot to mention one important issue I discovered when traveling with my Grand-dau (age 6 yrs.)
I forgot to consider that we had to plan for a "rest-period" early afternoon..So we would get an early start --sightsee all morning--then head back to hotel to rest about noon-1 PM ..After 2-3 hrs --we would head out again OR if the weather was hot---would wait until evening to venture out again..
For these reasons, I avoided booking hotels on the outskirts of the city (even though the prices were often more reasonable)
Hope this helps..

It would be helpful if you could give us an idea of your hotel budget. As traveler24 stated, Boston is a very accessable city. Let us know.

Am I the only one thinking the OP might have a very hard time trying to get a hotel for the end of July at this late date in Boston-- a popular tourist town?

Besides-- Boston in general is a very expensive town as far as hotels go. The wonderful Newbury Guest House is one of the only "deals" left in the city itself (an ideal location in the Back Bay), but it books up at least six weeks in advance.

You might want to look in Cambridge, although it's not cheap either. Really, I think that you might have to just suck it up and pay the high room rates since you've waited so long. Or try Priceline-- you might be OK with four to a room since the kids are so young.
