Boston/Fenway Hotel HELP!!
My husband and I are taking my son to a Red Sox game at the end of May and need some help with hotels. We probably won't rent a car (Arrive Friday, leave Monday) and would like some help with a fairly budget but not a hole in the wall hotel that would be easy to get to from the airport, Fenway and to see some other Boston sites (close to public transportation). I am completely in the dark on this and will really appreciate some help. Thank you all very much.

It might help if you give a range of price you are willing to pay for a hotel. Boston Hotels are VERY expensive. ALso know that late May is graduation time and hotel rates will be even higher. I'll assume you already have your Red Sox tickets. You are wise to not rent a car. There is transportaion from the airport to Hotels. Almost all sites are going to be near public transit.

you can stay in any downtown neighborhood, and easily take the T to Fenway. So if you care to stay someplace in Back Bay, or the Copley Plaza area you'll have no problem. Actually, I know many who take the long walk from the Prudential Center to Fenway Park. So you have lots of options.
Also, if you find a better price there, you could consider someplace in Brookline. You might find something like the Holiday Inn (on the corner of Beacon and St Paul, I think). This is close to the Green Line for getting into town and also close enough to Fenway that you could walk it in about 20 minutes.
Of course, janiekins is right about the hotel Commonwealth. That's certainly the most convenient to the park, and its right near the Kenmore Square t stop too, so you can ride into the center of Boston for other sight seeing.
Consider taking the tour of Fenway Park also. This will take you to places you won't see during the game...like inside the Green Monster, and into the press box.
Its going to be real interesting to see what Fenway looks like with all the new renovations this year.

I would look for hotel in Back Bay, Downtown, Copley Square area - but agree they will be pricey and limited availability. Unless son is very young, I would not try one roomon Priceline, since you may not get bedding for all.
Hotel Commonwealth is close to Fenway, but not much else - although is convenient to transportation. Check prices and decide.
For such a short visit Hotel at MIT or some more suburban location would not be my choice. Be careful of deals on hotels called things like "Boston-Waltham" etc. - geography in Boston is odd in that a distance of only 5 miles can take forever on public transportation.
