Booking for Vegas
Which is the best site to book a trip with? I am looking for hotel and airfare.
Also: will fares drop closer to the date?
I am booking for October, which apparently isn't a cheap time to go!
Thanks!

You don't say where you're coming from, which can make a big difference. SWA has some good packages, if they fly from your area. However, I've found that I do better to book the air and hotel separately.
Also, my understanding is that if you're a gambler with a player's card from your hotel, they won't have the option to comp your room at the end of the stay (if you qualify) if it was part of a package, so you might want to keep that in mind.

Oct. is pretty expensive this year due to an abundance of conventions. I will be staying at the Mirage the first week of Oct. and the rates are NOT likely to drop there. Being a frequent visitor to Vegas I am actually paying more for this Oct. visit (have to go for meetings) then I have ever paid before at any of the "better hotels". Normally I am able to get really good deals on mid-week.
I'd check each hotel's website if I were you and also Southwest Airlines for combo packages. Don't expect any miracles tho, Oct. is prime time in Vegas.
Rates may be lower Sun.thru Thurs. but if the hotel is hosting a major convention this may not be the case. If you are looking at any of the major hotels you are looking at high rates in Oct. unfortunately. If you are not so fussy you can check the Excalibur, their rates are generally lower. LIkewise Imperial Palace (which is center strip, thus good location). I have never stayed in either so I cannot comment on rooms. The Flamingo may also have some lower rates, and the location is terrific.
I would not wait too long to book tho, rates probably are not getting lower (sorry to be the bearer of bad news).

October is the month that we like to go to Vegas. Besides conventions there is the baseball playoffs and world series, along with college and professional football. The sport books are usually a very busy place.
We booked our trip through hotwire.com. We have four nights at the Bellagio, airfare, and a rental car. We are leaving from Buffalo. The price was 1600 total for the two of us. It was a very good deal.
Have fun.

I called the hotel, The Mandalay, and asked for the best deal they had. Usually Sunday thru Thursday are reduced prices. It was a better deal then Expedia listed for their "best deal!" And yes do not say your location until after the price has been given. October is very busy so book the room asap!
