Bobsledding at the Utah Olympic Park

Has anyone ever done this? It sounds cool but comes with a STEEP pricetag...$200 a ride. If you've done it, is it worth it?

We keep thinking about it. Should have done it back when it was only $100, but $200 for a one minute ride is more than a little steep, so it hasn't happened yet.

I did a wheeled one in summer at Lake Placid in 1998. I immediately began suffering from severe benign positional vertigo which still plagues me today. Just a warning.

My wife and I did it in Park City this past summer. The coolest thing ever!

I'd love to try doing it when it is on ice, supposedly faster and smoother. The ride was bumpy and jerks you around, but I loved it. One of the coolest things I have ever done.

awayfromitall,

I live in Park City and have always wanted to do the winter bobsled ride. But - I have bad neck from a car wreck years ago and don't dare. It pulls a lot of Gs.

I have lots of friends who have done it and they say it's worth every penny! A minute you will NEVER forget.

Be aware it a high speed thrill - grown men have peed their pants. No joke. Go - have fun! WHOHOO!

PS- their season starts early and ends early. They are running now. Must book FAR ahead normally, but with the economy being what it is now, maybe not so far ahead anymore. Call to be sure.

Just returned from Utah and did the bobsled ride. I wanted to add my opinion of it here in case anyone else is scanning these blogs deciding whether to do it or not.

I thought it was a cool thing to do...but probably not worth $200 unless $200 is pocket change to you. A second ride would actually probably be funner than the first one because you know what to expect. They give you all kinds of posture do's and don'ts before the ride...keep your shoulders shrugged, elbows up and braced, try to keep your head from going forward. It seems like I was so focused on this that the ride was over without feeling like I fully experienced it (only a minor scream!). Of course, it was only about 53 seconds so that is somewhat to be expected. In a second ride, the posture might come more naturally though and you might be able to enjoy a little more of the ride. Of course, at $200 a pop...probably no second ride ever.

Ours was a family of four and only my daughter experienced any physical effects which was just a little minor soreness in her neck the next day.

awayfromitall,

Glad you had fun and took the time to report back. Sorry we didn't have better snow for you, but the whole country is having some very strange winter weather this year.

Ciao,
Dayle

I do not remember paying $200 for a ride. I do know it was pricey, but to me it was worth it. I think we got a combo with the zip line.

Yes, they did go through the way you should sit, hold on, and hold your head but that did not take away from my ride at all. I yelled and screamed almost the entire way.

Would love to do it in the winter!
