We loved the Black Sand Beach on the Big Island. About a 40 minute drive from Volcano Village and we got to see sea turtles. I thought it was an exceptionally pretty (and unusual spot). We stopped at the winery on the way back and while the wines were to sweet for my tastes, it was interesting and they had a noce gift shop. Eva

We saw sea turtles sunning on both the Maui & Big Island Black Sand beaches. What a beautiful site. If you have the chance, at least visit one of them. It is unlike any other beach we've ever seen(especially being from NJ). Enjoy!

The Black Sand Beach in south Maui is Oneuli, just north of the hill in Makena. Good snorkeling. Not easy to access. Little Makena is the beach where naturalists congregate. Maui Revealed provides good directions to those beaches.
Wai`anapanapa is in a state park near Hana in the east. Tends to get crowded, though worth a visit for the sand, lava tubes, lava bridges and blowhole.
