birthday dinner in charleston sc suggestions?

Thanks to all the advice given on this board we are going to Charleston for my 60 birthday. Any suggestions for restaurants? Being from the north, we love to eat outside on terraces or such and love low country food such as fried chicken, catfish, shrimp etc but would like a special place to celebrate. All restaurant suggestions are welcome for breakfast or brunch, lunch and dinner. Staying at the Ren.

Try California Dreaming. It's always a favorite with us. It looks like a castle and is right on the water and has the food that you've described.
They do not take reservations, so go early(5pm) because the place packs up quickly.

Magnolia's <http://www.magnolias-blossom-cypress.com/magnolias/> is an awesome restaurant. It was so good, I wanted to lick the plate clean.

We really liked Charleston Grill, you can make reservations there via opentable.com. The service was sterling, food was great. It's in a big hotel whose name I forget at the moment!

We also went to Cypress and liked it quite a lot.

Happy early bday!

For something unique and charming, try Robert's: http://www.robertsofcharleston.com/

Makes for a fun evening of quality entertainment and superb food. We thoroughly enjoyed it. But it's not cheap. They're only open Wed thru Sat for dinner. Dave

California Dreaming is akin to eating at Outback Steakhouse; great food but not where I'd want to celebrate my 60th birthday.

For your birthday; Pennensula Grille, SNOB, Hank's, or Charleston Grill.

Have a drink outside at either the Vendue Inn or Market Pavillion as they are both rooftop with gorgeous food. Outdoor restaurants downtown are kind of tough.

Ronnie's on Shem Creek for seafood. Short drive from downtown.

Poogan's Porch (you can eat outdoors) or Jestine's Kitchen for brunch.

Thanks to all for your Charleston suggestions. We had a wonderful time. Ate much good food. Had dinner at Magnolia's, Penisula Grill, Jestines, Sticky Fingers, dessert at Keminsky's just to name a few. It was hot but that didn't stop us from doing what we wanted. This board and the people who contribute are GREAT. Thanks again JJ
