Big Size Shoes in NYC
I have a european shoe size 42 (I think it's a 11 USA size) I have many problems getting shoes in Spain, so last year I searched through all Nyc looking for NICE big shoes. Wasn't very lucky... The last morning before leaving for the airport we found a small shoe shop were they had my size. the brand of the shoes (2 pairs) that I bought is "VAN ELI" but I'm not sure if that is also the name of the shop. I can't remember the name or where it was..(only that it was on the Upper East Side)...anyone know or has any suggestion of any other nice shops where I can find my size??

Some size 10 US might fit or best would be 10.5 if you can find them.
I take 41 European size and wear mostly 9.5; some 10 US.
I did find Van Eli brand were smaller than usual. I think you can do better brand wise but I don't have any specific suggestions for NYC just empathy for someone with big feet like me.

Van Eli is a common brand of shoes and many stores will have it - but not necessarily in an 11. Have you looked at Macy's and Bloomies?
Another option - if you'll be here for several days is to order from zappos.com. they carry a very wide range of sizes and take back whatever you don;t - no questions asked. Also, shipping both ways is free. (Order before you arrive to have sent to the hotel - and return whatever doesn;t fit.)

Are size 11 shoes that rare? That's about the size my dad buys, and he's never had trouble finding shoes. You might want to take a quick look at the shoe store at Century 21 downtown. It's just down the block from the main store, and it usually has a huge selection in every price range.

Forgive me .. I"m being very dense tonight. I thought she was asking for a man. Duh ... yes, 11 in a women's shoe is very large. Still, there are a lot of specialty stores in Manhattan, though I can't recommend any specifically.

DSW is a discount shoe store that carries large sizes. (multiple locations)
The Shoe Box might have been the store you were in. They have several locations in Manhattan, 1 on the UES and another in Murray Hill. I've seen them carry large sizes. Not sure about Vaneli though.

Doug - Now that's TWO whacks in the head you get with a spike heel --- 11 is not VERY large in a woman's size. (And you should know by now not to use 'large' in just about any context when speaking about any part of the female frame!) Believe it or not, there are women roaming the planet with feet sized even beyond 11. (offered in good spirit and taken in same, I hope!)

My understanding is that Paris Hilton wears a size 11 - and always poses for photos with her feet at an angle so they look larger. 11 is not a petite size - but not unusually large - a think the average for a woman in the US is 8 or 8 1/2 - and I know several tall women who wear a 10 or 10.5.

A lot of designer shoes are running size 41-42 (US 10.5-11, depending on brand) shoes. Toosie Plohound has a good selection.
There is one in soho on West Broadway b/t Spring and Prince and another on 5th Ave b/t 18th and 19th.
