My 81 y.o. mother is arriving for a short visit tomorrow, and I need to help her find some low-heeled dress pumps to wear to my son's wedding in December. Unfortunately, she needs the AAAA width with a AAAAA heel. She has a very hard time buying shoes, and I was hoping to be able to find something in or near NYC (I live an hour and a half north of the city.). If anyone has any shoe stores to suggest (not Zappos or other websites, please), I would really appreciate it. Thanks!

The first place that comes to mind is Harry's Shoes on Broadway and like 79th.

If you are unable to find shoes, do a search by size at www.shoebuy.com. I've ordered shoes from them, and have received good service.

The Ferragamo low heeled pumps with the bow were always the best option for that. Saks used to carry them (and other shoes) in AAAA but evidently not any more. The name of the shoe is Vara or even lower is Lillaz Classic Bow Pump. I would perhaps phone Saks today and speak to one of their sales people and ask.

Nordstrom carries some AAAA on their website. You can do an advanced search online by size. Check and see if anything looks interesting and then maybe phone the White Plains store.

Helene Arpels carried narrow widths but I'm not sure about aaaa and not sure where they're located now. (Prices very high too).

My mom has the same narrow sizes. Ferragamo has been her best bet.

Another vote for Harry's, although I believe they are at 83rd and Broadway, not 79th. They are very patient and helpful and even if they don't have anything for your mother (although they probably will), they'll happily offer suggestions.

I really don't think Harry's is the place for narrow widths. I think they'd be better for wide widths.

I have narow feet - but not that narrow (AA with AAA heel) and very few places in New York carry any narrows any more - they seem to be focusing much more on the wider widths - you can get lots of Cs.

You might want to try Zappos.com. They have free delivery and a fairly large range of sizes as well as traditional styles.

yeah, I've seen their ads, but never been in there - SS stands for super slim . . . . I have the opposite problem - size 6 foot but super wide EEEE . . . I always say I'm better off wearing the boxes.

Why did you say "not Zappos"? I have very wide feet (but with a narrow heel) and Zappos is my salvation. I order 6-10 pairs at a time (free shipping) and return any that don't fit (often all of them!)(free shipping).

zlaor, verbena's Mother has VERY narrow feet, not wide. Missypie, I'd guess her Mother doesn't want to deal with returns and shipping and wants to do what she's used to doing, walking into a store and trying on the shoes.

I guess....but if you have an odd-sized foot, what you're "used to" is 1)going into a store, 2) finding cute shoes, 3)being told they don't have any of them in your size, 4) asking what they DO have in your size, 5)being shown one pair of white tennis shoes, and 6) walking out of the store with no shoes. Zappos has improved my frame of mind - and my shoe wardrobe - so much. They also do free overnight shipping....overnight is not "promised" if you don't pay extra, but lately, they always ship next day.

I will say, however, that my own mother is 73 and she will not use her credit card number on line, so Zappos wouldn't work for her, either.

This is definitely my area, I wear an 11 AAAA and finding shoes in my size is like finding a gold mine.

Stuart Weitzman makes AAAA and if your mother wears a smaller size, the store might have the AAAA in stock. Every once in a blue moon I hit the jackpot and find an 11 AAAA in the store.

Nordstrom's is another great outlet, the Munroe shoes are extremely comfortable, if not really fashionable. If your mother wears a smaller size, Nordstrom will probably have shoes in stock in a AAAA width, I order on line.

One other source is Maryland Square, but again, only on line.

Marmi only carries shoes up to AAA, believe me, when they opened in NY I made a bee line to the store, only to be disappointed.

I live in NY and this is always a challenge to me.
