Best strategy to change flight time on purchased ticket?

My husband and I are travelling on AA from MIA to MCI (Kansas City) on 11/24 returning on 11/28. The only problem is that it was IMPOSSIBLE to find a flight leaving on 11/28 later than 7 a.m. (and we'd like to leave as late as possible that evening). I went ahead and booked the flight, but am curious, as the flight seems to be near or over capacity already - what the best strategy would be to get a much later flight home?

Oh, and forgot to add, we're connecting to DFW both ways... with minor layovers.

Forget it. 11/28 is one of the busiest, if not THE busiest air travel date of the year. There's really no strategy to get a later flight.

Echoing the previous poster, you were unable to get a later flight out on 11/28, because it's one of the busiest travel days of the year. Short of a miracle, you chances of changing to a later time are near-non-existant at best.

Thanks for the feedback... and yes, I did realize that this is one of the busiest travel dates of the year. However, when I made my reservations early this afternoon, there were no later connections available on AA's website. But I just checked it again, and there are MUCH later flights, with seats still available.

Sigh. I guess we're just going to be out that day.

How far are you from the airport? If it's worth it toyou, you could get there early, tell the gate attendant that you are willing to give up your seats if they are overbooked, but that you want to be put on the later/latest flight. It might work just because odds are they are overbooked.

Austin,

Thank you for that helpful idea... considering that the flights seemed to be overbooked as is, I was hoping we might have this option.

I guess the worst that can happen is that we have the original flight.

If you see later flights with seats showing up right now, then call AA immediately! AA is one of the more generous airlines in terms of reissuing tickets. See what they can do for you.

April...looks like most of the discount fares on AA have only a $50 per ticket change fee, which is usually $100 per ticket. So you may be in luck with finding the flight you want and without too much further expense.I would not wait.Call AA right away.Best of Luck!
