Hi
It has been a while now since we have been to Montauk ( we had a summer house there for years) but in town , on Main St, was my favorite, the Shagwong. Fresh seafood, huge portions and great atmosphere.
I have heard good things about the Seafood Grill and if you want to go out to Gosmans, the small place called The Dock is a great casual place for food or drink.
You do realize tht Memorial Day weekend is the beginning of the season .. everyone will be opening their homes and starting their rentals..expect crowds, traffic etc. If you can, make reservations ahead.
Have a good time, I miss Montauk

Dave's Grill is the best upscale (everything is relative) seafood in Montauk. You'll need a reservation and it may already be too late.
Gosman's is much more famous, bigger and more casual. The Harborside is another option, across from the ocean.
Cyril's on the Napeague stretch is very casual and very good although a "scene" around cocktail hour.

Thanks so much for the great recommendations! I should have mentioned that we are staying at Hartman's Briney Breezes on Old Montauk Highway. We actually won't have a car so we will have to take a cab - in case that should make a difference. Thanks again!

What I mistakenly called the Harborside is the Surfside and it's right next to Hartman's. It's your best option without a taxi. Dave's takes reservations same day. I think their routine is first come first serve after 4:30 on day of dining.
You're not far from Gurney's Inn, although I don't think the food is so great there.
You can walk into town and there are some casual places (like pizza etc.). I think Shagwong that Scarlett mentions is there, in town.
