Best Routes.........

Does anyone have a good route to take from Mendicino to Yellowstone and how far is it?

Just checking - you do mean Yellowstone, which is in Wyoming, and not Yosemite, which (like Mendocino) is in California?

It is a little over 1,000 miles and requires about 18 hours of non-stop driving.

I think that dagwood102 meant to say Yosemite. I've checked his other threads and he's visiting Yosemite.

There are several ways to do this drive. I like driving down Hwy 1 along the coast, but it's a pretty curvey drive. We usually cut across below Bodega Bay to Sebastopol and take cut across to 680 to 580 and then take 120 to Yosemite. Depending on the route it's between 330 adn 350 miles and 7 to 8 hour drive (without traffic problems)

You're right utahtea,Yosemite it is,gosh thought Wyoming was just too far in a day.
How about highway 49,how that for a lovely drive towards Yosemite...
Apologies to dmlove also for my overlooking that it was Yosemite NOT Yellowstone.........
Any how,how much is Gasolene these days in California, back home here in England we are paying.....£0.97 per litre which roughly works out to £4.36 a gallon...changed to dollars would be....$9.70 a gallon (and tht's 90% tax)...so don't come here to drive....it'll eat your dollars away

Gas is just under $3.00 a gallon for regular unleaded (and no apologies necessary regarding the Yosemite/Yellowstone goof!)

Hwy 49 could be an option if you went though Napa and over to Sacramento. This route would be about 350 - 375 depending on where you picked up Hwy 49.

A lot will depend on how much time you have. Placerville would be an excellent start for your trip down the Mother Lode Highway, but make sure you leave enough time for your visit to Yosemite!
