I came onto this discussion board to find the best seafood restaurant (will try Legals or No Name). But another one question that I couldn't find in any of the posts... where is the best irish pub in Boston? Preferably one with great live music, we will be there this Friday.

Not too helpful . . . but there's a great Irish pub on the Freedom Trail near the Faneuil (sp??) Hall area. I had a few pints there recently but don't recall the name or exact location (no kidding!). I think it's across the street from a large municipal-type building as well. Bostonians, help me out please . . . .

I believe Gekko is referring to The Black Rose. I'm not particularly fond of bars in general and Irish pubs in particular, so have no personal knowledge, but The Black Rose seems to be a perennial favorite.

The Burren in Somerville is the real deal. Nothing fancy, just a dark, crowded pub - usually with some very authentic Irish music, and lots of interesting ales and beers.

Yep, that's it, The Black Rose on State Street. Excellent location and cold pints. Don't recall music, however, but then again I was there in the middle of the day.

I agree, the Burren in Somerville is awesome, though I'm also a fan of the Purple Shamrock, which is also in the same location as the Black Rose. There's also The Harp by the Fleet Center, and Matt Murphy's in Brookline. Have a great time!
