How long in Jackson, WY?

How long would you recommend spending in Jackson? Does it require a day or an afternoon to get an overview of the town? My husband and I are planning a one week vacation in the Yellowstone/Teton area in September. I cannot decide whether to spend 2 of the nights in Jackson or in GTNP. Thanks for your suggestions.

Definitely spend more time in the Grand Teton! Jackson's a nice town, but for us, the GT is the best!

I did this itinerary last year. Landed in Jackson about 6pm. Saw all I needed to see in about an hour. Add more if you want to go into shops and touristtraps and buy something. The point of the trip is see the Tetons and Yellowstone. Most of your time should be Yellowstone -- its a huge park and so much to see. The Tetons are outstanding also with some great hikes. Why waste time in town? It ain't that big and you can drive around and through it in 30 min.

It's an attractive western town but given your limited time in the area, I'd stop there for a few hours on your way into the park. The center of Jackson has many art and photography galleries, a cute town square, restaurants, upscale shopping, an historical museum and gift shops.

Thanks for responding... I appreciate the advice.

We are flying in and out of Billings. Our nights are divided as follows: Red Lodge, 1; Old Faithfull Inn, 2; Colter Bay Cabin, 2; Lake Yellowstone Cabin, 1; Billings, 1. Unfortunately, the first and last nights have to be spent near the airport. Five hotels for 7 nights is ambitious, but apparently necessary to see as much as possible.

Additional comments and suggests would be welcome. Thanks.

With that tight itinerary and only two nights in the Grand Teton, I'd skip Jackson altogether and spend that time in the park.
