Best Hotel options in Santa Fe?
Anyone like the Bishop's Lodge, or the Inn of the Governors, La Fonda, which and why? I'd appreciate input as we are going there soon..La Fonda is very central and historic, but may be other options that are better for a winter get away/ Thanks in advance.

We stayed at the Inn of the Governors a couple of years ago. Great location. Good restaurant in the hotel when you don't feel like going out. Very helpful staff. Parking onsite. We paid extra for a room with a fireplace. We have a lot of fireplace experience (live in NH). The fireplace didn't have a good draft and actually set off the smoke detector one evening (embarassing but seemed to be a frequent occurrence, based on staff response). Otherwise, the room was nicely decorated, not over the top with southwestern kitsch.
We took several all day road trips from Santa Fe and spent several days just walking around Santa Fe and seeing the local museums and sites. Had a great time.

We have been staying at the Inn of the Governors during Santa Fe stops for several years now and love it. The breakfast is one of the best I've encountered and included in the price. They also have complimentary afternooon tea/sherry at 4:00 in the lobby. We often get a room with fireplace and have never had a problem. Highly recommend.

LaFonda has its charms and history but strikes me as more of a busy, big scale convention-type hotel.
When in SF this past fall, we stayed at the Don Gaspar Inn,more of a B&B than hotel, which had a group of casitas set around a central courtyard. This is located near the state capitol on a quiet street a few blocks away from the main plaza area. The staff could not have been nicer!(Honest, I don't work for the place...I picked it based on the large # of favorable reviews on Trip Advisor!)

Stayed at the La Fonda once, few years back...room was "quaint" as heck, another word for tiny and dingy. Did offer free parking and when you emerge, you are in the center of the town..Has changed so much since I used to live there many years ago...just a 'tourist' place nowdays, and most of those Navaho rugs are probably made in China. Still, I love the entire feeling...what about Feb, is it too cold to do anything outside? I can't remember.
