Best day to buy airline tickets?

Is it Tuesday night or Wednesday night?

I have heard two different days. Given that this week is the last day for me to get the best price (I think) on Memorial weekend tickets I thought I would check to see what the Fodorites have to say.

I heard someone say that 3 a.m. is the best on Tuesday. I may need to set my clock!

I read that the best time to buy airfare is Tuesday evening from 4 pm to midnight. If traveling within a week or 2, buy Tuesday night into Wed. morning.

I also read an article posted as a link on SmartTravel or airfarewatchdog that you should check rates early Sat. morning.

If you fly SW do you have Ding on your computer. Sunday we booked Cleveland to Chicago for $25 each way for Memorial weekend. SW is running Ding specials now for May.

There's a website farecompare.com that you might check too.

In addition to FareCompare, look at http://www.Farecast.com The NY Times travel section had a good article on this last weekend.
