We walked from the Inn at the Market to 5th many times. It's 5 avenues or main streets. We also walked to Old Town (I think that's what it's called). The market area is very lively and fun.

Even some of the rooms at Inn at the Market that aren't classified as view rooms can have good views. I recently visited a friend there, and his room had a terrific view of part of Elliot Bay, the Market, down to the Stadiums, etc, but since it didn't have that full western view he wasn't charged the view rate. There was nothing worn or mildewy about that room-it was really nice. The rooftop deck is fantastic, too.

In fairness I should point out that it's been at least 5 years since my stay at Inn on the Market. Comments about room, staff, and mildew smells should be taken with a grain of salt.

Stayed at Inn at the Market last month in a waterview (not deluxe waterview) room. Loved the location, the room itself was fine -nothing special in itself, but clean, (certainly no mildew!), comfortable, maybe a little cramped. But the view was amazing, and that made it the perfect place to stay for us. Staff were nice and friendly -we didn't have too many questions or requests for them, so can't say how helpful, but very pleasant.

We stayed at Inn at the Market in August 2005 and had a city view room. The room was nicely appointed but the bed was a tempurpedic and we really didn't like it. I thought it was hot to lie on and DH thought it was to soft.

The Alexis is really nice and it is convenient to the market and to stadiums, free bus, Pioneer Square.

Hope this helps...

We picked up great package at Hotel Andra at Luxury Link. Right now, they have 3 nights at Andra, Champagne and Chocolates, Starbucks card breakfasts and lunch (Tom Douglas' new restaurant Lola) at auction for less than $700. This is fantastic deal, in my opinion. We used Lola credit across the street at Dahlia Launge with no problem. Luxury link always seems to offer places we enjoy discovering that are top of the line at good discounts. We loved everything about Hotel Andra. Italian restaurant right next door is also wonderful. And it's walking distance to everything including Pikes Place, Belltown and downtown shopping.

Yoo-hoo. Zabashel, where are you? We keep giving you great suggestions and you remain myseriously mum. What's up?

Incidentally, Andra gave us a fantastic rate booking several months ahead. When I called them about a parking question about a month before arrival the guy suggested he check our reservation, and then offered us an even better discount that we already had. What a surprise. There was no reason for him to do that as we were already booked.

Andra is also a Kimpton Hotel which offers some great discounts.

Please advise me about the Inn at Harbor Steps, I have stayed at The Inn at Market Street and the carpet was dirty, with the bathroom 1/2 a step away from the bed --- so musty smells were evident! Would the Inn at Harbor Steps be a cleaner hotel?

We stayed at Inn at Harbor Steps just one night in 2005. The hotel rooms are at the bottom of the building which is primarily an apartment building. Ours was very dark -- and I suspect most are. They look out to a sort of courtyard -- no real view -- and are shaded by the tall buildings surrounded. Our room was fine -- nothing special and to be honest we thought it smelled a bit musty.
The best thing about the hotel was a very nice "tea" set up with major snacks in the afternoon and their really great breakfasts.

Even our cheaper room at the Inn at the Market was nicer than what was described. The bathroom was in its own little hallway and was quite large and both it and our room were very clean. I don't have the greatest sense of smell in the world but I certainly didn't notice anything musty. The only thing that was out of the ordinary was that the hotel is in an old building which is not centrally air-conditioned so we had a sort of built-in unit in the room -- not a window unit but the kind that goes in the wall.
