My parents and I have been frantically looking for a place to stay in Belleville - cannot find anything that has any kind of decent reviews anywhere. There are hotels in Fairview Heights but they are all booked

Have you tried the hotel located at Our Lady of the Snows - link from www.snows.org but need to call for reservations (618) 397-1162 or 800 682-2879.
If it must be Belleville you could search for a B&B. O'Fallon, IL has lots of new hotels and is close by.

Whenever we visit my parents in Belleville, I think that maybe we should stay in a hotel, because our family is really too big for their house. But then I look for hotels in Belleville, and there are none where I'd be willing to stay. I'd really consider someplace in downtown St. Louis if I were you.
I got married in Belleville in 1981. We had our rehearsal dinner at a restaurant just down the street from the old Belleville West High School; that is where my 20 year college HS reunion was, too, but I can't think of the name. Help me out, Belleville folks. There was also a motel there.

This is part of the article I got when I googled Fisher's Restaurant:
"Belleville police and the Illinois State Fire Marshal are investigating a fire that damaged a motel next to a popular Belleville eatery early Friday.
At 1:37 a.m. Friday, Belleville Fire Department received a 911 call from employees of Fisher's Restaurant at 2120 W. Main St. They reported a fire at the adjacent Best Value Inn, Assistant Police Chief Roger Barfield said."
So apparently the motel was still there as of March. I haven't been in Belleville for years. Just happened to remember the name of the restaurant.
I hope the OP has found something by now. But, if not, I'd be inclined to go with SandyBrit's recommendation of O'Fallon. I suspect it'd be easier getting back and forth than from St. Louis.
