kenyajan2005 - Check the site below that lists most hotels in Zanzibar, many with prices:

www.encounterzanzibar.com/index.htm

Click on "hotel accommodations" where it will show the various sections of ZNZ - east, west, south, etc. etc. - then work your way thru each area. But I must say $50/nt/pp (which probably includes breakfast) is about the least expensive you'll find for a decent hotel. Let us know if you find something for less.

Tembo House is worth that money-very authentic-the bar has great calamari-make sure to have some. Remember that it is a 'dry' hotel-no alcohol allowed.
Although I don't remember the price, Emerson and Green was a unique experience-look into that.

There are no shortages of hotels on Zanzibar and NO shortages of guides willing to show you to them. A little walking and to could find a great place. We stayed in Narrow St (?) when on the Island and some god awful place near the fish market. It stank, needless to say.
