Message: Thank you all for your comments and recommendations. They're all great and it's nice to hear different experiences/opinions.
This whole high school/ trips is making my head spin a bit. I think it's a wonderful opportunity that was not available when I was a teen and I truly feel being exposed to different cultures can really change your outlook on life itself. All hopefully for the better!
The hotels that she is going to be staying at are:Hotel LA Pergola Via Del Prati Fiscall/Rome for 2 nights. Hotel Piccadilly-Montecatini/ Via Trento?? 2 nights, Hotel Miami Via Gorizia 14/Lido Di Jesolo 2 nights, Hotel Cenacolo Francescano Via Patrono D'Italia 70/ Assis one night and Hotel Meridienne Via Colie/Palestrina one night. Anyone stay at any of these hotels?

I haven't stayed in any of these hotels, but can offer a suggestion. You can go to venere.com and see if there are any comments on the hotels. There is also a web site called tripadvisor and you can do a search for each hotel in the search window at the top of your screen in Fodors. You'll probably find some or even all of them. These are real comments by people who have stayed there.
Just a suggestion. Hope she has a great trip.

I don't know your hotels, but I do agree with Sal that www.tripadvisor.com is a great site with tons of comments from people who've stayed at these and other hotels. Check it out.

The Rome hotel is way out of the center at the edge of northern Rome near Monte Sacro. From the locations of the others (Lido di Jesolo, for example) all the hotels seem to be miles from the city they are visiting. Any wandering on her own will probably have to be a group effort to get back into the center.
Please calm down. She will be traveling with a group and the chaperones and guides will take care of her. And she will have a wonderful adventure, no matter where the hotels are located.

if you're just curious, follow the suggestions above to look for more details on the hotels.
But, if it turns out that they are not centrally located, the trip is a done deal, right? I'm sure she'll make the best of it. When she leaves the hotel each day she should just have a decent-sized totebag so that she can carry what she needs for the whole day--tissues, bandaids in case a blister occurs, sun glasses,a map (even if you're being led around it's helpful to orient yourself on the map) etc

Lido di Jesolo is a beach resort area north of Venice. It would require a 30 minute bus ride + a 30 minute boat ride to get to Venice. It has a nice beach but it won't be warm enough to use while your daughter is there. There are lots of little shops - gelato, shoes, trinkets, groceries and a few discos. I'm not sure if everything will be open at that time of year.
The hotel in Rome seems to be out a little but says it has a bus stop with an express bus to the city center. If she uses this she needs to find out where to catch the bus coming back and what time is the last run of the day www.hotellapergola.com
Make sure your daughter has a copy of all hotels with their addresses and phone numbers in case she were to get separated from the group she can get a taxi or call the hotel. You would be amazed at how few of the kids know where they are staying!

thanks to all for your tips. very helpful. to UHHH : no I would not deny her the opportunity. I'm thrilled that she's going. I just like to try and prepare her. She'll now go armed with maps, a list of her hotels, phone #'s, and a little extra money should she have to buy more meals if the hotel's meals are lousy. Spend more time trying to educate her regarding the transportation ect. She is very independant and going with an older crowd, it'll be nice if she just has a little knowledge. That's all.
Thanks, KLC

Make sure your daughter takes plenty of film and an extra camera battery if she isn't taking a digital camera. Film is expensive in Europe. If she wants washcloths she will need to take those too because they won't be provided in the hotels. I either take old ones and throw away after using or take baby washcloths because they dry fast.

On an organized tour as others have mentioned the hotels will be standard tourist hotels and it sounds like not centrally located. My best wishes are that she will get a peak of Europe, safely, easily, with all arrangements made. She will see enough to become a passionate life-long traveler and return on her own having more authentic experiences in the places that catch her interest on this maiden voyage!
