Taxi from LAX to Santa Monica

My Mom has about 5-6 hrs to kill at LAX and wants to go to Santa Monica. About how much would a cab ride be?

It was about $40 to $45 a couple of years ago, before gas prices went up.

Maybe she would rather catch the bus? That's what I did....slower but waaaaay cheaper.

Yes, but...

yes, but...

If she took the bus that's slower, she may miss her connecting flight.

As it is, we don't know when that 5-6 hours is. If peak traffic hour, she can count on at least an hour or more on the freeway going to Santa Monica and the price could go way up from $30 - $45.

I really don't think it's a good idea to go to Santa Monica with only 5-6 hours to spare in LA. Maybe Marina Del Rey or why not walk on the sandy beach while the planes go by overhead?

If hers is an international connection, think about getting out of and back into customs. That'll take six hours - easy!

I'd take a cab to Manhattan Beach. It's closer, the cab ride will be cheaper, and there are a lot of cute stores to shop at. If she wants to get a bite to eat, Mangiama is a great restaurant.

Thanks for all of the info. Unlike me, she's not as concerned about money as she is about convenience I was mistaken and she actually arrives at 11:30am and doesn't take off until 9:30. So, with 10hrs, would you go to Santa Monica Pier? She's flying to new zealand from LAX so we were thinking that she would have to be back at the airport by 6:30pm. So, if she left Santa Monica around 5:30pm on a Tue, would that be OK? Thanks again for your help!
