Hi-I was just there in October. Stayed at the Bar Harbor Inn. Great location but pricey; not sure the value was there. Go to Acadia Nat'l park-it's wonderful. Harbor cruise-great. Visit the Bar Harbor Brewing Co (Blueberry beer-surprising tasty); the local winery whose name now escapes me. If I think of anything else, I will update.

We were there just a couple of months ago and stayed at the Bass Cottage Inn. It is the best B&B type place that I've ever stayed at. Even if someone offered me a couple of free nights at another good B&B in Bar Harbor, I'd still pay to stay at Bass Cottage.

We go up to Mt Derest Island as ofen as posible. I suggest renting a cabin or house for the week. It's nice to have your own kitchen, extra space or even a view of the ocean or lake. Try www.cyberrentals.com or www.vrbo.com

We stay at Rosecliff Cottages just about every year. There are 2 small cottages (for 2 people) and a big house. It's located right on the water (rocky "beach" where we launch our kayaks)and up the road from Acadia National Park headquarters. And most importantly, away from the madness of downtown Bar Harbor! Tons to do if you bike, hike, and paddle. Don't miss the Jordan Pond House for lunch (or dinner). They have the best lobster stew and popovers.

wendydenny -- my hubby and I were there last May and we stayed at the Bar Harbor Inn. jbass noted it was pricey in October, but I didn't think so in early May. I would imagine the rates would go back up in the summer and fall. Anyway, I really liked the location - water view and right by the Shore Path, which I recommend walking. My hubby and I walked around the entire town and had a wonderful time there. We ate at Geddy's and I highly recommend it. Also went to Acadia National Park -- which is a must.

Just an update for those planning to go to Bar Harbor - don't stay at Rosecliff Cottages. They have done major construction on the property and it's not a comfortable, peaceful spot anymore. We just stayed and do not recommend Rosecliff Cottages.
