Kerrville is just to the N and has several decent places and the Cowboy Art Gallery which is very interesting and unique. Rt 337 from Leakey to Medina is a great "driver's road".
Lost Maples is N of Vanderpool along the rt and worth a stop.

Actually, the area, along with Big Bend National Park and several W texas State parks, is among the most interesting in TX (OK, I know, everything is relative)
