My son in the Army is being transferred to Fort Gordon next month. Anyone know anything about the area?

Use to live there. My sister still lives there. What would you like to know about it?

Well, I'm looking for a good place to stay for just a couple of days that is close to Fort Gordon... I'm hoping for maybe a Comfort Inn or something. I really need a clean place to stay-- it doesnt have to be HILTON or anything.

THANKS!

Go to smartertravel.com; click on 'hotel;' scroll down to 20% off Comfort Inn, etc. Then follow the clicks to Comfort Inn home page. Ask for accommodations in Augusta GA; give your dates and select from their map.

Go to this link....the cluster of 6-7 hotels on the left off of I20 (right above the words "Jimmie Dyess") are less than 5 minutes from Gordon's front gate. They are in a good part of town and most are newer. Esp. Hampton Inn, America's Best, Wingate and Motel 6. HTH

Anywhere in Augusta is not too far from Ft Gordon...Yes there are some places close to Ft Gordon, but I would opt to go a little further out. The area around Ft Gordon has not been a desireable area for many years. Especially the Deans Bridge Rd and Gordon Highway areas. If you are looking for Pawn shops and Tattoo parlors then that is the place for you. Although there has been a newer hotel built there on the Gordon highway within the last 5-10 years. Also down on Washington Rd on the weekends that the soldiers rent rooms and party. There are some problems in those places. You may want to spend a little more than a comfort inn, IMHO. Or have your boyfriend get a place on base at the BAQ. They are generally clean and quiet.
