atlanta to savanah
How long does it take to drive from Atlanta to Savanah. I am coming from Connecticut and trying to find a place for a long weekend with my mom. We can fly non stop to Atlanta out of a local airport, but only a connection to Savanah. I was thinking if the drive wasnt too long it might be the better than waiting for the connection. Any ideas would be very much appreciated.

We fly Boston-Savannah route quite frequently - mostly USAirways, Delta, and most recently Independence Air.
We make connections in Charlotte or Atlanta - always fine, quick - usually less than an hour connection.
I think connecting flight is the way to go.

~248 miles. Since the Atlanta airport is on the south side of town already, you woudn't have to worry about traffic in Atlanta. No major towns in between, and speed limit is 70mph. If you drive close to 80, it's a 3.5 hour drive.

If you do the drive, DO NOT speed on the section of interstate around Macon. They are notorious for strictly enforcing the speed limit.
I would opt for the plane change as well rather than do that drive. When we lived in Savannah and my parents lived back in the Berkshires, I used to be able to get a non-stop to and from Bradley. Is that no longer available?

I live in Atlanta on the northwest side of town. It takes me 4 hours to drive to Savannah, and I don't drive more than a couple of miles over the speeed limit. The airport is about 20 minutes closer to Savannah. I don't understand how it can take anyone 5 hours unless they are coming from points north or west of Atlanta. The airport is on the south side.
The drive is boring-not much to see or do.

If you book enough in advance (14+ days), you can fly Southwest from Hartford to Jacksonville for $49/one way & then it's only 2 hours to Savannah from there. It's not non-stop but some flights you don't have to change planes so the time of the stop is very minimal.
