I was wondering if anyone knows if there is a place in Manhattan that sells Asian Indian clothing, specifically sarees and a salwar kameez. The last time I was in NYC, I noticed you could buy just about anything there, so I'm hoping I'll be able to find these.

Last spring I saw some sari stores on Fifth Avenue in the 20s, like 25th, 26th. The area of the mid-20s (23rd St to 28th St or thereabouts) and Lexington/Third (and obviously west to Broadway) is considered Little India so that's the area I'd head to. There are probably some cool sari stores in Queens, but I have no idea where exactly. Maybe some Fodorite out there might know?

Oops - in my previous reply I meant to say that Little India extends west to Fifth Ave (not Broadway), since I was walking up Fifth when I saw the stores. Well, Broadway and Fifth are very close together in that neighborhood...

Hi, me again. I have the name of a couple of shops which were mentioned in a Time Out NY article - Om Saree at 134 E. 27th St (Lexington) and Little India Emporium at 128 E. 28th St (between Park & Lexington). Hope this helps.

Jackson Height, Queens is busy residential and commerical Indian area--

I second Jackson Heights. A short ride on the 7 train, get off at the 74th st stop and walk in amazement on a block full of sarees and fabrics and everything indian. The prices and selection cannot compare to anything you'll find in Manhattan. Fabulous jewelry also. Totally worth the train ride.

While you can find sarees in Little India, Jackson Heights-71st and Roosevelt Avenue #7 train has a much wider selection.
