Indian Restaurant Recommendation in Midtown

My wife and I will soon be taking our first trip to New york City. We are both fans of Indian food and therefore wondering if anyone has a recommendation of a good Indian restaurant somewhere close to the theater district. Thanks in advance.

I love Haveli but it is not in the theatre district, rather it is where all the Indian restaurants are. I believe it's the East Village but can't exactly recall. It is a wonderful place, well worth the taxi drive to get there.

We just had a fantastic experience at Diwan on 48th and Lex. If you want to stay closer to the theaters, Shaan is a good choice.
