NYC Spicy Food

I am planning a trip into New York City in the next few weeks and I love spicy food. I was wondering if anyone could suggest a great Mexican, Indian, or Thai restaurant for me and my fiance to try?

Indian: Haveli in the E Village, think it's around 1st Ave & 6th - they have indoor and sidewalk seating, a little bit classier than some of the other joints in that area.

Try Seeda Thai in the theater district on 50th between 8th & 9th. Not expensive & Zagat guide says "spicier & more authentic than at other establishments".

Good inexpensive indian I like India Village on 2nd Av and 13th st. You may also enjoy little india, on e. 6th st between 1st and 2nd av. There are tons of restuarants there. There are also some higher end Indian restauarants like Tabla and Tamarind. For Thai, Holy Basil, also on 2nd av, near 9th st.

I think Pam's Real Thai may be a bit spicier and more authentic than Seedha's. Pam's is at the corner of 49th and 9th (actually one door west of 9th). It has a bit less upscale atmosphere than Seedha but consistently gets good reviews on chowhound and egullet. The yellow curry dish we tried there was mediocre but the soup was excellent, the Pad very good and I had a string bean and lamb dish that was done in the "style of the Hill People". It's a country style dish probably closer to Hmong cooking than most Thai is - so fiery I couldn't really taste the meat. If spiciness is your thing it's worth checking out. Queen of Sheba Ethiopian (I think it's on 8th Ave in the 40's) has some excellent dishes also, someof which are very spicy.

I've been to Pam's Real Thai three times and each time had a horrid experience. The pad thai was drenched in oil, felt my arteries all clogged up. The satay was very dry, and the service was not very good at all. Sripraphai in Queens is very good and authentic and the currys can be very spicy. Take the 7 train to Roosevelt Ave.

Address is: 64-13 39 Woodside Avenue
Tel #is: 718 899 9599

It has very very good reviews on chowhound and I've been there about a dozen times without any disappointment. It really resembles the food I've had in Thailand.
Hope you get to try it. Enjoy.

If you like Korean, try Han Bat on 35th St b/ 5th and 6th avenues. Their Dol Sat Bi Bim Bap is very good and you can get extra of the spicy sauce.

Ciao.

Best Thai is on corner of Baxter St in China Town, Real Cheap but yet still has tacky Thai Restaraunt look. Great food and Zagat Loves it. Can I rememebr the name NO...BEcause we go so often it is just second nature. It is close to Federal Bldgs I believe on COrner Of Baxter . Cash or AMEX only and excellent

Another vote for the Thai place at Baxter & Bayard. The name is so obvious it's easy to forget: Thailand restaurant. I also liked Seeda but Thailand is more authentic, with less atmosphere. Enjoy!
