Are there certain days of the week when the Washington DC museums are less crowded?

We are planning a mid-June trip to DC. Are there certain days of the week when the museums tend to be less crowded than other days? Thanks for your input!

I live here and don't get to go to museums during the week much due to work, but it's a given that the weekends are more crowded, of course. I don't know for sure, but my educated guess would be that they are least busy at the beginning of the week, say Monday through Wednesday. Of course in peak tourist season, they can be pretty busy all the time because people are on vacation, but that would still be my guess.

You will find that you can visit DC museums at any time. They are all laid out in such a manner as to not be overcrowded. The museums all tend to be large, and can withstand all human invasions.

It really depends upons upon which you plan to visit. For sure, Fri, Sat & Sun are busier than earlier in the week. And, mornings are busier than afternoons. But, you really shouldn't let any of this concern you, since you'll be there when you'll be there. Each destination is HUGE, and you can easily migrate to the other end of a place and explore your way in the other direction.

I would agree that weekends are probably a little more crowded than weekdays, but anytime during the summer touist season you're going to deal with lots of people. My husband and I have visited D.C. twice (once through the week and the other time on the weekend) and the only suffocatingly crowded area of the any of the museums we visited was the Presidential area of the Museum of American History. Just be prepared to walk slowly and say "excuse me" a lot and you'll be fine!

There is a huge difference in the amount of people in the museums on a weekend as compared to a (non-holiday) weekday. Having said that, it's still not so bad on the weekends. However, if you are planning to drive, arrive NO LATER than 9:30am to find a parking space.
