Are there 2 Hampton Inns in Savannah Historic District?

Have always stayed at Hampton Inn on Bay St - while researching rates for upcoming trip there seems to be another one, listed as new, on MLK Blvd, also near Historic District. How strange - anyone have any info?

I've heard one was going in there, but I wouldn't stay on MLK over Bay...in fact, MLK would probably be my last choice of a place to stay downtown!

There is a new hotel about ready on MLK BLVD. I think that it's a Hampton. It would not be as centrally located as the other one. In fact, you would have a walk of several blocks before you could get into the central part of the Historic District. Definitely not in as nice a location.

Thanks. Can you help me visualize the location. If one were standing at the old Hampton Inn facing the River, would this new hotel be to the left and behind person?

Yes. Way left. MLK is pretty major and the hotel is south of Broughton near Oglethorpe. If you are coming off I-16 coming into town and headed to the river, MLK is the street you are dropped onto from the interstate if you are going north into the historic district.

Thanks - I can place where it is now - our son is at Savannah College of Art and Design and that is the general direction off the River to the dorms - not a great area, I agree. Hope they have no plans to close the other Hampton Inn - we like it.

(And my apologies to others reading this tedious thread - it is useful to me and perhaps no one else)

Check out this map:

The new Hampton would be over on the far left near the visitor's center. The old one is over to your right on the north west corner of Abercorn and Bay
