Anyone know a nice, inexpensive hotel in New Orleans?
Hello!
I am going to New Orleans in October and was just checking the hotel prices, which were very high. The only inexpensive place I could find was LaQuinta Bullard at 12000 I-10 Service Road. Does anyone know anything about this La Quinta and could anyone make suggestions for an inexpensive hotel closer to the heart of New Orleans.
I would greatly appreciate any assistance.
Thank you!

Bullard is in New Orleans East, not where you'd want to be. Not only far away from downtown but in a less-than-great neighborhood.
How about Priceline? I've read many stories about people getting good N.O. hotel deals on this site. You can't pick your hotel though.

we stayed in a Ramanda Inn in the Garden District a few years ago. It was nice at the time and reasonably priced. It was also near the trolly stop. We rode the trolly to the French Quarter, but we were back to our hotel before it got too dark. I did not feel comfortable roaming around the French Quarter after dark.

Thanks for the warnings. I found a review on another site where a person said he felt like he was staying in a drug den and that he slept in his clothes because he didn't want his body to touch the sheets because everything was so dirty.
Needless to say, I canceled my LaQuinta reservation.

The St. James in the central business district - a few blocks walk from the quarter _ was $69 in may. Newish, pretty nice, esp. at that price. it also has a great restaurant, cuvee, on the premises. (where dinner could easily cost more than that $69!)

I appreciate all the responses. Based on a posting I saw today, I booked the Hyatt Downtown on Orbitz at less than 1/2 its regular price and they have a shuttle to the French Quarter.
I had checked some hotels in the French Quarter which were suggested on this posting and others, but they were either unavailable for the dates I needed or more than I was looking to pay. I think that October is a busy month with conventions, so prices are higher.
Thanks!
