Any recommendations for a B&B on Maui?
My husband and I will be traveling to Maui in January and would like to stay in a B&B this time. We have always stayed in hotels on previous trips. Any recommendations and please say why you are recommending it (view, accomodations, etc)

Hands down-- Gerards in Lahaina. Didn't stay there-- just had dinner in the AMAZING restaurant. But the inn looked darling, and very well-appointed. It is not on the beach, but the beach/pool thing seems more like a hotel priority than a b&B thing. I think it just looked positively luxurious, and the mere fact that Gerard's is downstairs (voted #1 in Maui), and you get a discount on the food, I think, if you stay there, would bring me in!!!

We just got back from staying at the Plantation Inn. No view and no beach, but wonderful rooms and wonderful breakfasts. And the on-site restaurant is Gerard's. Can't say enough nice things about Gerards. Best restaurant and best service on the island. Blows Nick's Fish Market out of the water. Not even in the same class.
Oh, and stay away from Huelo Point Flower Farm. It's a disaster.

We ate at both Gerard's and Nick's Fishmarket. I have to say, the atmosphere at Gerard's was more romantic, and the food and service *were* amazing, but I think Nick's may have had the edge a bit on the service, at least (not to say Gerard's service was anything but fantastic--Nick's was just out of control!), and maybe the food, too.
Anyway, you can't go wrong. Stay at the Plantation Inn, and make it a priority to eat at 2 of these three places, and you're guaranteed a good time: Gerard's, Nick's, and Chez Paul.

Lynn,
I would like to recommend a B&B Inn in Lahaina. I believe the name is Lahaina Inn, it's on Lahainaluna Rd, half a block from the main street.
The story about the place is that on our very first vacation ever, in 1977, we fould this Lahainaluna Hotel listed in Fodor's Hawaii on 5 cents (just kidding) a day. Actually, it was $18 a day and was over a loud pool hall. But, my husband loved to sit on the balcony and watch the young girls working in their bikinis in the clothing factory across the street. Well, several years later, about 20 years, we were on the innaugural trip of the Radisson Paul Gauguin on our way to Tahiti (quite a step up in accomodations) and during the port stop we went to see "Our Hotel". Boy, were we surprised when we saw that it had been remodeled and turned into a very lovely, antique- filled Inn. The owner was there and when we told him our story, he let us go up to look at the rooms. If you decide to stay there, get a room overlooking the Rd. to sit on the balcony and watch the passing parade. They probably have a web site for all the details about price. Good luck and happy travelling.
