Plantation Inn - Maui

I have gotten some great tips from folks on this site. My wife and I are going to Maui in September and we are investigating staying at the Plantation Inn. Have any of the Fodorites have an opinion of this establishment. Thank you.

We stayed there for 5 nights in January 2003 and loved it. Quiet, very pretty courtyard with pool and hot tub, nice breakfast every morning (altho the choices remain the same), pay washer and dryer available, walk everywhere in Lahaina, have beach mats, coolers and road to hana cd's to borrow, discounts on meals at Gerard's (which is outstanding). You can beach privileges at their sister hotel on Kanapaali. Highly recommend it and would definitely stay there again if we ever went back to Maui.

The hotel is beautiful but you are not on the beach so if that's important, this is not the place to stay.

We stayed for 7 night in oct.2002, very nice, stayed in a deluxe room with a lanai overlooking the pool. Best coffee ever. Gerard mixes a special blend. Staff very accomodating with good tips on where to eat. Nice that you can walk to Lahina every evening. Try the Gazebo in Napili one morning for breadfast, it is one of Gerards favorites, Have fun, we are going back this Sept.

If you stay at the Plantation Inn or even if you don't - be sure to go to Gerrard's - the restaurant at the Inn - it is one of the best restaurants anywhere. You would rightly expect the fish dishes to be wonderful as they are, but when my wife had lamb, I had a bite of it ans it was absolutely the best I have ever tasted! One of the most romantic restaurants in the world!
