The Bavarian Point is a really good German Restaurant in Mesa, AZ. There is also a little place next to it that serves German food and the lunch there is terrific. I can't remember the name of it though.

If you want the real deal, go to North Dakota! Many of the towns (Strausberg, Wishek, Bismarck, etc)are named in honor of their German ancestors, & a lot of the locals still speak German. The local cafes, restaurants and many a home serve authentic German food on the regular menu, such as knepfla soup, borcht, fleishkuekle, kuchen, etc. and you can even buy it in the grocery stores from local vendors. Jamestown has "The Emter's" German dinner theatre, where you can enjoy a meal with real German accordion music - they've even played for Presidents! The winters may be cold, but the hospitality & the food is warm! The summer & Fall is really pretty up there...lots of outdoor activities to enjoy.

The food at the Hofbrauhaus in
Las Vegas is only so-so but when
the live German band shows up
nightly the place perks up.

In NYC:
Kleine Konditorei is long gone. Sadly I never tried it. My German relatives loved it.

Heidelberg is TERRIBLE.

Zum Schneider, according to a friend from Germany who now lives here, has the most authentic German food she's tried in NY. I love the place. Greg $4 brats and huge, strong beers. The desserts - there are only two: strudel and pancake - are both fantastic.

Started to answer this and then realized how old the OP is. Is it worth it? Is anyone still interested?

Sorry if my earlier post sounded a little testy. I was short on time. Now that I've finished after school crossing guard duty and have retrieved my own off-spring from high school, I've decided to take the time to post. Whether anyone's interested or not!

I've always loved The Berghoff. Their food is good. I love their beer. My kids love their root beer. It's usually crowded and a bit rushed. But I love the dark wood and the efficiency of the waiters. And I love the fact that The Berghoff originated during the Columbian Exposition in 1893.

However, history aside, IMHO there is a better German restaurant on Ogden in Lisle. It's called Chef Paul's. Both the food and the beer are very good. I hesitate to mention it 'cause it's busy enough as it is. But I guess I'm in a generous mood!

In another part of the country...Although it seems to have fallen on hard times, Danzer's in Syracuse isn't bad. When we lived in Syracuse back in the late 70's there were, I think, 5 of them. Now there's only one. We ate lunch there about a year ago and the food was much as we'd remembered it.

There was also another German restaurant in Syracuse that was pricier and very, very good. So good, in fact, that it was reviewed (favorably) by the Washington Post. Unfortunately, I can't remember the name. I asked about it at S.U. last year. The person seemed to think it was still there but couldn't think of the name either. I'm hoping someone might see this and know what I'm talking about. If I recall correctly, it was in a white frame house. If indeed it is still there, I'd love to stop for lunch on one of our passes through Syracuse to drop our daughter at school.

There is (or was; I haven't been in a while) near Oklahoma City. Off Sooner Road east of the city. I seem to remember it being called "Bavarian Inn", or something like that. We had several in and around Oklahoma City and this was my favorite. Live music on weekends, and some of the best Nurenbergwurst I've had outside Germany!
For a fun Saturday brunch, a little coffee shop called Ingrids--she had a little jazz combo that played music from about 10 am. til 1 p.m--in Oklahoma City. Food was deli style.

The best German food I ever had was at a restaurant in the small town of Fredericksburg, Texas, in the hill country. The name of the place was Der Lindenbaum and it was delicious. I would go back to that town again just to eat there.

I recommend Craigin's Brickhaus on restaurant row in downtown Harrisburg, PA. It doesn't have a German show but it has great authentic German food. I had the best pork chops that I've ever eaten there. My husband is German and orders their Weiner Schnitzel. They have a purple cabbage side dish that taste great and that is from someone who usually never eats vegetables. If you're ever in Harrisburg, I recommend that you check them out.
