The ferry goes from Tiburon, San Francisco, Alameda, Oakland.

Open this website and click on "ferry" which has your departure point.
I was there once, and the views are great, and we walked up the mountain all the way to the level of the eagles.
I don't know if they have any food there so make sure you have at least enough water.

There are docent led tours on Angel Island, I'm not aware of any tours TO Angel Island. Although any boat tour of the Bay probably go past Angel Island. You can check out Angel Island's website at

although I lived in the Bay area for 5 years I never once visited...until I was on vacation a couple of years ago. What a great place. Take the ferry from SF or Tiburon, fill a backpack with snacks and drinks and go enjoy a day on the island. We hiked up the trail to the highest point and couldn't see a thing due to fog, but it was the eerieness of the thick fog that made the hike so memorable. It was fine up until the very top and then we were completely socked in. Once we hiked back down, we were in the sun again!
There is a snack place there s well as bathrooms etc. Ferries leave on a regular basis so you have some flexibility in deciding how your day will go.
Have fun!
