All-inclusive family resort in the Northeast
Hi All,
I was wondering if anyone could provide some suggestions for a family get together this summer. The kids are mostly young teens. Youngest is 12. Ideally, I'd like an all-inclusive resort that also had golf as an option. We're not big drinkers, but we don't want to have to prepare any meals. That is why I was thinking of an all-inclusive.
As far as location goes, I am looking anywhere from Virginia north to New Hampshire. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

My husband's family has been having reunions every year for the past 15 years. What works best for us is a hotel with restaurant(s) that serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It's also very helpful if meals can be charged to the rooms. I don't know of any all-inclusives outside of Disney resorts. But you might consider resorts that allow charges to the rooms.

I would suggest Basin Harbor Club on Lake Champlain in Vermont (www.basinharbor.com) or The Balsams, a grand old hotel in Dixville Notch NH. (www.thebalsams.com)
Both are wonderful resorts with lots of activities available, including golf.

The Balsams in New Hampshire or Samoset Resort in Maine might have some all inclusive summer packages, or at least packages that include breakfast and golf.
Lighthouse Inn in Dennisport on Cape Cod is nice for families, but I'm not sure how far they are from golf.

GBbabe, Your idea sounds like a decent option. Do you have any hotel suggestions on the east coast? I'd like to find a place that has outdoor activities like swimming, golf, fishing, biking, etc.
colbeck, thanks for your suggestions. We stayed at The Balsm and loved it there. I looked at Basin Harbor and that looks a lot like the kind of place I'd like to stay, except for one drawback. The site mentions that in Aug. males over the age of 12 must wear a jacket and tie to dine. I really don't want to have to wear a jacket and tie and I know my boys don't.
Do you have any other suggestions?
Thanks again for the help.

I don't know what your budget is.....but The Mohonk Mountainhouse in New Paltz New York is a wonderful, rambling resort on the top of a mountain, with beautiful views and great atmosphere. It has a lake - for swimming and fishing, hiking, rock climbing, horseback riding and golf. The meals are all included, as are family-style activities in the lodge. I think there is also a spa. It is a beautiful place to stay, but very pricey.

The 2 I can think of off the top of my head are the Mount Washington Hotel in NH and Samoset in Camden ME.
Both have beautiful scenery, with Mt Washington being in the mountains and Samoset being on the ocean, and both have golf and other activities. I haven't stayed at Samoset in a very long time so I can't comment on food quality. I was unimpressed with the food at Mount Washington though.

Here are some all-inclusive family resorts that we have enjoyed (or friends have enjoyed), but I don't know about golfing in these areas...
Purity Springs Resort, in NH
Twin Lake Village, in NH
Timberlock, in the Adirondaks, NY
Mountain Top Inn, VT
The Inn at East Hill Farm, NH
Of these, the food and amenities were the best, and the rates cheapest, at Purity Springs.

I don't know what your budget is but everything you want can be found at the Chatham Bars Inn. They have three or four different restaurants from out-door grill to formal dining and they are a short walk to the town center where there are several good choices for eating. They have a water taxi to the outer beach of Cape Cod, activities for kids and a golf course onsite. You will pay dearly.

Sorry, not only do we have our family reunions in Colorado, but we usually end up at the Redstone Inn, which has a pool, some cable tv, lots of quiet and lots and lots of wonderful scenery. Someone brings a large, complicated puzzle which takes a couple days to put together and the kids bring their electronic games to keep them happy when not in pool. No golf but plenty of hiking.
