Upscale waterfront summer resort at a reasonable price

Can anyone suggest a northern East Coast resort that would be a good value for an weeks upscale experience in the summer? My budget would be up to $400-500 per night. Most of what I see is either way more expensive like $1000 a night or just a hotel or inn room without other resort facilities. It can be small or medium sized resort, something on the water (probably a lake) for swimming, canoeing etc and a pool too. We want to just hang out and relax so it should include meals or just have meals available but then room rate would have to be lower. It would be better if it is not a place people tend to go with kids since we are looking for a quiet vacation this time. Something nearby to do on rainy days like antiquing, breweries, crafts stores, museums and so on. Thanks!

During the summer months most waterfront resorts in that price range won’t be really upscale (more like mid-range properties) and will be family oriented.

If you can accept those peramiters look there are plenty of very nice resorts on Lake George that you can get for around $500/night. Look for resorts near the town of Bolton Landing rather than the more crowded village of Lake George.

Also, look at B&B’s and small inns on Nantucket or Martha’s Vinyard.

Sagamore on Lake George is the one RA is describing.

Sagamore is just one of the places - it's a fairly large high end resort so might be too crowded for OP and the lowest priced rooms will be at the upper end of OP's budget.

There are dozens of other very nice properties all up & down the lakefront that are near Bolton Landing and will be well within OP's budget.
