Albany: Rensselaer Train/Bus Station to Empire Plaza - okay to walk?

I'll be taking Megabus from NJ to Albany on a Thursday in early June. I know I can take a CDTA bus between the Rensselaer station and Empire State Plaza, but the times are a little inconvenient (more than a half-hour wait), and was wondering if it's possible to just walk the approximately 1.5 miles? If so, what's the best/safest way?

Call a taxi when you are 10 minutes out. Ask someone on the bus if they want to share the taxi.

No, you cannot walk. There will be taxis at the train station. Take one of them.

Theoretically you can walk as there's a narrow walkway on the north side of the bridge over the river. Google maps will show you walking directions.

You'd have to circle around to the entrance / on-ramp on the Rensselaer side, then follow the offramp northwards all the way around to towards the river on the Albany side.

Once you reach river level in Albany, you can take the wide pedestrian bridge/walkway over I-787 then walk up State st.

I've done this on bicycle (hard to do since the walkway is narrow). It's poorly planned for pedestrian or bicycle, but it's doable nonetheless.
