Alaska Airlines- Seattle to Hawaii
Would like to hear from anyone who has taken the new-ish flights from Seattle to Lihue and/or Honolulu.
Is it true that there are no movies or meals? Thinking of going to Kauai this summer with grandchild. I'm used to Hawaiian Airlines, with excellent inflight ammenities. On the other hand, I have a $50 companion fare coupon on Alaska.
Does the flight seem really LONG with no entertainment??

Hello Barbara
While I have not been on the particular flight you mention, I will say that with the savings you have using that $50 companion ticket, you could purchase a small portable DVD player for your grandson. He could bring a collection of his own movies (or grandma could buy him a couple new ones!) Maybe buy the kind that uses dual headsets so you can listen too!
And how about one of those teeny tiny MP3 players for music?
No food? No problem. Pack sandwiches, fruit, trail mix, maybe some little treats.
It's about a 6-hour flight. Before you know it, you'll be in Hawaii!

Barbara5353-
I have not flown on this particular route , but have flown from Seattle to Orlando and back on Alaska Airlines, plenty of times. This is a 5½-6 hour flight. Meals are available for purchase (usually at $5) and movies are available through Dig-E (sp?) players which come loaded with multiple movies, short subjects and even TV shows. Oh yes, music too. The cost for the longer flights is usually $10 and you can use it for the duration of the flight. This is actually better than a standard airline movie because you have a choice of programming and you can stop it and restart it whenever you wish.

Hi Barbara,
Just returned from my rental home in Kaua'i on Alaska from Seattle non-stop to Lihue Airport. The flight was fine did not have a problem with not having movies - they do rent you a small DVD player with movies to watch if you want - also like most airlines - food to purchase at $5 - we just brought our own snacks like most people on board, ate in Seattle before we left so no need for a meal on board - they still give out free soda/juice/coffee and nuts. Great flight - and glad to not transfer in Hon and go straight in to Kaua'i - only about an extra 20 minutes flying time - sure beats getting off in Hon then lining up and waiting a few hours before boarding to Kaua'i.
Hope this helps.

I had a different experence with this trip coming home on the 11 th of december. We turned around after about an hour of flight and head to honalulu 2 am (sorry never could spell). problems with the long range radio not working. The whole plane was put up in a hotel by the airport(no beach) and given 2 ten dollar certificates for breakfast and lunch.Took us by bus to the airport at noon and the plane finailly took off at 5 pm only 90 min .late.the plus side is that all food and drinks plus mindid were free and we all got 300 off the next trip..
