We have 4 days at the end of 12 sightseeing around the canyon area late September. The problem we are having is choosing accomodation. 2 couples late 40s don't mind 2 rooms or a suite (would prefer 2 bathrooms. Is there much airport noise in the outdoor pool areas of hotels near or on the strip. Budget - don't want to spend too much as we hope to do lots of wandering around but if using the pool wouldn't want to be constantly bombarded by aircraft noise.

I can't remember ever being bothered by aircraft noise. I spend a lot of time at the pools on the strip and I either never hear them or I was having to much fun to notice. BTW, you can find great deals at most hotels on the strip, especially this time of year when it's scorching hot,

We stayed at a condo right next to Hooters casino - it was right next to the back side of the airport.

We had virtually no airplane noise - airplanes land from the east and take off towards the southeast.

The end of the main takeoff runway is a couple of miles south of the end of the strip @ Mandalay, so NO, you should have no airplane noise.

We did have a frequent hum of helicopters where we were staying, as that side of the airport was where they arrived/departed. Not noisy though.

The closest we stayed was Tropicana in May, was baking hot, so we spent most of the time by the pool. Did not hear any airplane sounds at all! The loud music was only in the bar area, we'd walk away from it.

I agree with other posters. We stayed at the Flamingo and noticed only the frequent buzz of helicopters. Even stayed at the Embassy Suites closest to the airport once and even there we didn't find it overly noisy because of the traffic pattern at McCarren.

No. Check out a 2 bedroom suite at the Signature. You'll be right next to each other, but have also have the privacy of separate rooms and baths, and a living room to share.

Like the others, I don't ever remember airplane noise even though the Strip isn't far from the airport and I've been to Vegas several times.

You're safe on the noise issue

Unless your budget accomodations are on one of the runways you will be just fine!

The only problem I had last trip was listening to an excited, and possibly intoxicated young lady, being escorted into her room next door.
I think she screamed from the elevator to the room.. my feet were sore too, but that was a bit much at 3:30 am.

I know this wasn't your question but jetset1 reminded me of the walking on the Strip. Walking around is fun, but these hotels are huge and you walk a lot more than you realize. Bring your most comfy walking shoes.

Sorry to hijack here, but Jaya's point about not realizing how much you are walking on the strip is no joke. Not a big problem in the summer heat, but we were there in March a few years back and walked miles. My husband did not have proper shoes for that type of distance and his foot was sore at the end of the day. It never truly got back to normal, he had chronic pain and difficulty walking any distance longer than a city block. By the following March he was having foot surgery that sidelined him for months. All in all, the improper shoes stole >1 year of walking ease from him. And he is someone who goes to the gym 3X week, so it can happen to anyone!

We still haven't decided where to stay as the possibilities seem to be endless. Soon we will just have to toss a coin I think. At the moment Bill's Gamblin Hall and THEhotel Mandalay bay are contenders but so is Desert Rose and Flamingo or Signature@MGM. I suppose its a nice decision to have to make and we hope not to be in the romm too much anyway
