There are four blackout dates listed and sure enough, my dates are among them! Thanks for posting though! Maybe it will work for someone else.

Ah, that's too bad. Nothing good on hotwire? You can pretty well figure out the places at www.betterbidding.com hotel lists for hotwire. Less surprise than Priceline! plus, you can actually put "three" in a room on the reservation request if necessary.

Hotwire has just one Carmel hotel, a 2.5 star for $105/night. I think I'm going to go with Best Western Carmel Bay View Inn, basically the same price.

"Hey, do I need to be worried about poison oak on any of the main trails at Pfeiffer or Julia P. Burns parks?"

Yes, you do need to be on the lookout for poison oak. It's pretty much everywhere in the coastal mountain range. Know what it looks like, wear long pants and a long sleeve shirt, and try to avoid brushing against overhanging vegetation on the trails. That said, my husband is extremely sensitive and we've managed to avoid any poison oak incidents hiking in that area for many years now.

Invest in a small bottle of Tecnu in case you are exposed to PO or PI. You will be much less itchy if you use it soon after exposure. Better to have it and not need it...
The place I have stayed with a kitchen is the HI hostel in Monterey but it is not a 3 star by any stretch.
