Accomodation New London
Hi,
I have to do a course in New London (central) and need a place to stay for 6 nights. The radisson suits best in terms of location but it's not available on my last night. It would also be good if there was somewhere cheaper in the vicinity.
Any hotel, motel, b&b, inn .. would be great. I'm not having much luck on the general websites.
Any help would be good.. thanks.

New London in CT.
The course goes for 12hr days so I'm really looking to minimise time of travel in and out. I will also be very tired and being Australia, more used to driving on the other side of the road.
Though I have no idea how far things are - how far would Groton or Mystic be from New London?
Thanks ...

There is a nice old (but refurbished) place in the residential area of New London down by the water called the Lighthouse Inn - see http://www.lighthouseinn-ct.com/ They have a nice bar and decent restaurant, too. I've not stayed there, but have attended functions and it's a nice change from the chains. There's also a Holiday Inn nearby, next to an Outback Steakhouse and the non-enclosed (but brand new) New London Mall. DO NOT go to the Red Roof Inn.
If you've no luck with either of these two, then as Craig suggested you could continue on 95 North (which is actually going geographically East) across the Thames River Bridge into Groton (a 5 minute drive from the Radisson), and there's any number of chains there. Just let us know. If you want something a bit more picturesque, and have time to walk around a bit, then I'd recommend heading into Mystic.
PS - Right across from the Radisson New London is one of my favorite Italian restaurants - Tony D's. Their calamari is awesome, especially with a glass of the house chianti... Mmmm.

FYI- The Lighthouse Inn has gotten BAD reviews.
If you try Hotwire, you'll see that the Radisson routinely comes up for about $50 and it has Excellent reviews on TripAdvisor.com.
(Look for 3* and "aiport shuttle" under amenities to know you're bidding on the Radisson).

Hi,
I just booked into the Radisson except that they haven't got room for my last night. I figured that I'd have a better idea of what's where or if the course finishes early on the last day, I could possibly head off somewhere else.
Thanks for the food recommendation - will definitely try out Tony D's. I have 5 nights there, so restaurant recommendations would definitely be good.
I am really looking forward to this trip. I then have 5 days in NY but haven't had much change to think about that yet.

So, Nanda, did you find another hotel?
Here's some more suggestions for food:
Your 1st night do Tony D's as it's close - if you're there on a Fri or Sat, you may have to eat at the bar, but it's worth it.
Next I would get back on 95 North and head into Mystic (easiest route: take exit 89 (Allyn Street) and hang a right off the ramp. Continue on to a stoplight, and turn left. You'll drive right into downtown. Park and find Water Street, then walk to the end and eat downstairs at the Capt. Daniel Packer Inne Pub - hopefully there will be a fire in the fireplace!
In New London, try Captain Scott's Lobster Dock - call for directions and hours - and have some local lobster...
And one night you should head to Mohegan Sun Casino just to gawk and have food - take 95 South to 395 North and watch for signs (though the Radisson may have shuttles). They have a Michael Jordan's steakhouse (Sports Cafe next door), Bubba's BBQ joint, a seafood place, and a lot of other choices... Have a great time!
