ABQ NM - Need Help Locating a Budget Hotel

Howdy All,

I am used to staying near Old Town during the Western Music convention. However, this year they moved the convention the the Marriott ALbuquerque, 5151 San Francisco Road NE. Even at their "discounted" rate for those of us attending the convention and music festival, it is a bit pricey for my budget.

Can anyone recommend a decent budget motel in close proximity to the Marriott? We have the option of staying Pojaque and driving back and forth each day but I would rather not put in that much driving time if I can find something affordable.

I'd appreciate any advice.

Adios,

Bit

There is a La Quinta at San Antonio and I-25, and a Hampton Inn across the freeway - also Hilton Garden Inn, Comfort Inn and Suites, Holiday Inn Express, Howard Johnson Express...there's a Drury Inn at Jefferson and I-25, and a Holiday Inn across the freeway from it.

If you're really going budget, there's a Motel 6 up at I-25 and Alameda, plus other options at that intersection.

When is your convention?

Forgot to mention that by the time you spent three hours round trip in the car each day, plus the gas money, the Marriott might not be so bad.

Howdy Leann,

The convention is Novembe 15 - 17. It will be the first time we have showcased there so we are a bit nervous. It is open to the public, if you are interested in coming.

I have tentative reservations at the La Quinta that you mentioned. I just wasn't sure how close it really was.

Yes, by the time we calculated the gas, it would be just as cost effective to stay at the Marriott. We will go to Pojaque saturday afternoon though, as we always have a post convention jam session at my friends' home. Sunday will find me in Santa Fe at Cowgirl's as I will need my ice cream baked potato fix.

I thank you for your response. I appreciate it greatly.

Adios,

Bit

Yes, Bit, I'd be interested in coming - sounds like fun! Is there a website I could look at?

The La Quinta, as I said earlier, is at San Antonio and I-25. From there, you can just go up the frontage road to Paseo del Norte, hang a left across I-25, then go left again onto the southbound frontage road. It's pretty easy.

Try the Monterey Non-smokers Motel

http://www.nonsmokersmotel.com/

It is economical, comfortable, and around the corner from a great Mexican restaurant.

They mean it about not smoking, though. Aggressively mean it. Don't even think about it.

Funky and interesting place.

The Monterey isn't anywhere the ABQ Marriott, and CowboyCraic wants to stay near there.

Lee Ann,

Here is the link for the PDF of the festival brochure, http://www.westernmusic.org/07WMA_Brochure.pdf. Last year, the day shows were free. If you have any questions, there is an email address listed in the brochure and Marcia can answer all your questions.

From your directions, the La Quinta sounds perfect. It isn't exactly walking distance, but it is close at hand and convenient to 1-25 to head for Santa Fe on Saturday afternoon.

Ack,

I have stayed at the Monterey before. It definitely is quite militant about its policy. However, since that is its selling point, they should be.

Funny, you say "funky and interesting". I usally describe it as eclectic Haight Ashbury, LOL.

Adios,
