AA Fare Sale through April 2007
From airfarewatchdog.com via Frommer's, this seems like a super sale. I'd been watching SFO to BNA (Nashville) for Thanksgiving with my sister and her family. Fares were in the $500 RT range with inconvenient itneraries, but I was able to book late last night for $170 RT on a simple itinerary. Check it out."
"American Airlines (tel. 800/433-7300; www.aa.com) is having a blowout unadvertised sale from (or to) many cities it serves. The fares, $198 RT plus tax, are good for travel through mid April 2007. Since this is an unadvertised sale, we don't expect it to last terribly long, but one never knows. This sale was accurate as of noon EST.

An unadvertised fare war United (tel. 800/241-6522; www.united.com) has slashed fares to and from American’s hubs (Dallas, St. Louis) and American (tel. 800/433-7300; www.aa.com) has returned the favor out of United’s hubs (Denver, Washington, San Francisco). You’ll find the most routes on sale out of St. Louis, Denver and Dallas, and a more limited choice to/from Washington and to/from San Francisco. Seats are available through mid-April 2007.

Another sale I've missed
and I'm smiling thinking of yesterday's purchase of a $99 non-stop San Francisco - Chicago one way! Leaving 9 am, arriving 3 pm.
With taxes, security, and a seat as opposed to a standing room only
$109

This was a fierce but unfortunately a short lived battle between the 2 giants. AA was selling cheap tickets for routes between major UA hubs, i.e. SFO-IAD and UA was doing the same thing to AA by selling cheap seats between AA hubs, i.e. MIA-SFO. Both examples above were $140 R/T plus fees and taxes of $41.20. The fares seem to be gone today. I was still able to book couple of them early this morning, but now they are back into the $300 plus range.
BTW, both airlines are offering double miles bonuses. I don't know the details of the UA offer, but with AA you have to register and purchase the tickets no later than 5/31. All the flights up to 11/15 will get double miles of the base miles plus any elite and class of bonus miles if applicable.
Go to www.aa.com and look for the 25th Anniversary offer to register, or you can go directly to AAdvantage Special offers and register with the code DBL06.

Wow! Thanks for your update, AA. Glad I was able to jump on it in the middle of the night last night. Some times staying up late to finish a work project pays off!
I'd forgotten about the double miles offer. Think I did sign up, but will alert DH and DS.
