A Surprise about WooGoo

A couple nights ago I ran into friends I've known for years. We used to "co-rent" a sublet in New York with some others as a theatre get away. Otherwise they stay at the Waldorf Towers, where they first stayed for their honeymoon. This is a couple with taste, class, and a pretty fair amount of travel funds and savvy.

So they tell me they just got back from four nights in New York and were telling me about the five shows they saw. But what were they most excited about? Telling me about the "find of the century" -- a place called WooGoo that rents apartments by the night. This was their third experience with them in just one year, and each time it gets better. This time they took their kids and rented a two bedroom, two bath spectacular place (6th and maybe 53rd?). They paid just over $300 a night and were ecstatic.

When I told them about all the lawsuits and commotion here about this "rip off" agency, they were shocked. They can't imagine a better deal, more honestly run, and more value for the money that WooGoo. I just thought I'd pass this on, as I stood there amazed!

Pretty amazing, after all we've read here! Like every story though, this one evidently had two sides....

And they are still advertising the Lincoln Center property where jbdkb had his legendarily bad experience - in fact it is their "Hotel of the Month" at http://www.woogo.com/about_us/why_woogo/index.html, to which I linked from a post on craigslist

What did I miss about the "Lawsuits & commotion" & the "rip off" agency? Is this about The Manhattan Club rental Patrick?

What I attempted to do was tiny post a woogoo.com search. It didn't work, so run the search and you will find it.

for wow and others who may not be familiar with this, no, it has nothing to do with Manhattan Club. Woogo is an agency that rents apartments, apparently often illegally and nothing as advertised. There have been numerous posts here about them, particularly by one poster who had a nightmarish experience there. So this recommendation was a real surprise and totally opposite the reports we've heard before.

Thanks, Patrick! How's the weather in Naples tonight? We are freezing here in Ontario....high winds, lots of rain, snow on the way, thunder & lightning...weird. Can't wait to get to Florida in January!

I know my complaining will sound like sour grapes, but tonight we came home and I had to close up the house and turn on the AC. It is too hot and humid. It was 85 today and didn't cool off tonight. Humidity is hot. I'm ready for a little fall at least if not "winter". But this morning I had to drive about 30 miles out towards the Everglades for an appointment. It was glorious with the top down.

Patarick, no sympathy from me LOL, although today was lovely. Just a cotton sweater kind of day. But the previous days this week was sooo cold.

Very interesting about your friends and their experience with WooGoo.

NeoPatrick: Would you please provide more details for booking this "find of the century" with WooGoo? Is there a website with photos and testimonials?

I would suppose that, as with most rental agencies the world over, some units are better than others, but would also wonder why you don't plan to book with WooGoo yourself?

I'm currently looking for a one bedroom midtown apartment for a month and hoping to pay considerably less than $200 a night -- more like $4000 to $5000 for the month. Woogo doesn't offer than.

Their website is www.woogo.com

Based on the bad reports and the amazing comments on TripAdvisor, I'm still not so sure I'd risk getting one of their places -- especially for a whole month. I'm certainly not denying that what others have reported is true. I'm sure it is. Just thought it was fair to report that my friends actually did have a wonderful experience with them.

Same here, Patrick. Maybe I am giving too much credence to the horror story discussed earlier on this board, but even when one looks at the reviews posted on sites such as Expedia or Travelocity, they are decidedly mixed. Think that for now I will say ta-ta to WooGoo.
