A scenic drive from Chicago to Arkansas?

Is there a prettier way to get from Chicago to Fayetteville Arkansas then the major highways?

I have to make this road trip soon and I really would love to take a different route to spice it up. Would love all suggesstions-road stops along the way.

Chicago to St. Louis is all flat. You can take the US or IL highways instead of the interstates. You'll see lots of farmlands and various towns.

Southern Missouri is where the Ozark Mountain is. Lots of secondary roads that are south of I-44 to choose from. They will all be significantly slower than I-44 to I-540.

Eureka Springs, AR is a neat town with a lot of shops. Something to keep in mind if you have time to stop in that area.
