A great deal for NYC's Picholine restaurant

I just got an email that to celebrate their 15th birthday Picholine (a wonderful restaurant near Lincoln Center) is offering a complimentary $50 gift certificate. Go to their website:
www.picholinenyc.com/

Scroll to the bottom of the left where it mentions the gift certificate, fill out some basic information, and you'll get the certificate.

FYI, got my card from them today (signed up a couple weeks ago) and it's valid until September 2009.

I don't know this restaurant. I've looked at the menu but don't see any prices. Can anyone tell me the average price for dinner for two (appetizers, mains, desserts).

Thanks

Wow. That's a long anniversary celebration! It doesn't say on the website how long the certificate would be good for.

By the way, not being a dessert eater, I found the cheese tray instead at Picholine to be probably the best one I've ever had in the US.

I read that three-fourths of the diners order cheese as part of their meal.

it's prix fixe - Goddess - 3 courses are $88 four courses are $98. I think the tasting royale is $115 - six courses.

Picholine is a very respected haute, fine dining restaurant, a few years ago it had gone downhill a bit, then owner Terrence Brennan and his chef revamped the menu and redid the decor, and the reviews were great. It is famous for it's wonderful selection of cheeses.

ooh bad proofreading
"It is famous for it's wonderful selection of cheeses." - should be "its
wonderful selection . . ."

Phew, mp. Considering this week's uproar over misplaced apostrophes, it's a good thing you made that correction!!!

And yes, it's easily more than half price off one person's dinner!

Unfortunately, I can't seem to get it with a Canadian address. Since it's such a long date I thought I could use it next time we're in NY but I guess not.

It may be fair value for their tasting menus, which do have prices on the website, by the way. but the wines are more than a tad pricey. I wonder if my wife and I can use gift certificates together at the same time. I'm waiting for the fine print when the certificates come.

Thanks for the link, Patrick!

AJPeabody and others, here's the fine print from the back of the card (it's a card, like a store gift card but without a magnetic strip, not a "certificate")

"Terms and conditions: One card per table, applied towards food and beverage in dining room only. expiration date 9-30-09"

The menus sound fascinating. It looks like that for any reasonable meal for two with a little wine, the GC will just about cover tax and tip. Too bad you can't use two at a time, but piling on isn't fair.
